    Trimming not active

Trimming should allow to trim overlapping or touching sketch lines. Under which circumstances is this operation active ?

Install update - cannot connect to server

I tried to update from Alibre Exp V24 to V27 sp 1. Since the "check for updates" is able to figure out that V27 sp1 is the one I should take, there is a connection to the server. For the actual install, it tells me, it couldn't connect to the server. This tells me ?

    Recovery process

The recovery process after a crash is not thought through. I get a popup that some parts were not saved. Yes there is a list, Yes, I select them to recover. I get another popup telling me that a file already exists. As this can happen, I go there and rename the already existing file with a size...

    File Error at saving.

Since recently I'm unable to save new designs. I get the attached file save error. Working with Exp.V24. It is not a matter of disk space. I can however design a part and export as stl file for printing. Actually... while at it .. Alibre is running as single program, consuming 2.1GB private...

    Synchronizing global parameters

In an assembly parameters affecting more than one part have to be global. I have most parameters thus global. During the design of a (sub) part I thus add a global parameters by the dozens. Synchronizing is random. It can take arbitrary long. The update designs button has to be clicked random...

    Crash recovery

After a crash I was asked to select what for recovery. Either the assembly or the global parameters. I did chose the assembly. Now the global parameter file is reset to much earlier. Despite me saving not too seldom, perhaps once an hour. That means I saved the assembly with its tree of...

    non global parameters

Global parameters become effective in assemblies, so that complementing parts fit, and keep fitting after a parameter change because touching structures change in sync. One detail not covered, or I wasn't able to figure out yet are are threads. The details are selected from dropdowns such as...

    Move a sub component

Moving a subcomponent within an assembly may be a bit un-intuitive. pressing the component placement button bring up the shown dialog, even though minimum motion button is highlited. Select one of the components and move it by some way in DZ. Contrary the expectations, the whole assembly is...

    Global Parameter settings

I created a global parameter set for an assembly. At one point I would like to view it, or rather edit it. Upon pressing the Global parameter symbol in the menu I get that dump popup : Yes, nice... why not show it or let me edit it ? Double click, rightclick .. with no result. For some reasons...

    Part Assemblies

With version ex 24 I now tried the Assembly for the first time. It is rather un-intuitive. While multiple parts can be built within one view, the equation editors provide me a new file for each part. To later on - vanish. When I go to a part ... non reproducible .. I can edit subassembly, and...

    Working with (thread-) holes

At least in V24, the holes do not function as expected. The expected approach would be activate sketch mode and the surface and then click the thread hole button. Noting happens, the face stays selected. The select button underlaid with blue is active, but actually wrong. I have to have the...

    Inserting a point

Alibre seems to to have a serious problem with multiple windows open at the same time. I'd like to insert a point to later on draw reference line through. For a strange reason all the pick incident selections do not apply and I'm left with coordinate entry. With sufficient math in my background...

Strange loft behaviour - loft a tube

While a tube can be made by extruding a ring, meaning two concentric circles, the same is not true for a widening tube. I cannot loft a ring. I have to place a circle onto the tube on the outer diameter, then another circle whatever distance away. Then I can loft these two circles to get a solid...

    Parametrizing arc

I tried to parametrize an arc. Select the center as the origin, done. Select a starting point .. I see an angle displayed, but cannot edit it, nor can I parametrize it. Then the only thing editable and parametrizable is the radius. The arc is there, in orange color. But not listed in the...

    Customize home screen

The number of recent files shown on the home screen is somewhat arbitrary. It currently shows 12 projects. There couldn't be more ? Perhaps with a scrollbar at the side or bottom.

Align tangentially not according to the manual

I'd like to get a line tangential to the circles. According to the manual, I should click the constraint tangential, and then the first feature which remains at its location, then the second, which moves. However, the circle is not even selectable. On the picture all items are in red, even...

    Rotate sub body

I want rotate a cylinder body within the coordinate system. Around an axis perpendicular to its length. I got as far as moving along a path... but the arc-sketch is not recognized as path. Though I'm not sure about the sweep functionality. It just talks about a surface.

    defined part is not defined

When I draw a sketch consisting of two concentric arcs with origin as center and two interconnecting lines, it should be fully defined. However it claims not to be. It is somehow irritating that I cannot have starting and stopping angle as parameters. But fixed numbers are fine for now

    Synchronizing assembly

I have an assembly of multiple parts. Now I edited a part on its own. Since, it doesn't want to be synchronized from the assembly anymore ... The regenerate button is there, in the assembly window, but doesn't load the content of the actual part anymore. I can select the part in the (assembly)...

    Import 3D mathematical shape

Is there a way to import a 3D shape perhaps as an STL file and proceed as if it was an internally produced shape? Aim would be to process eg a paraboloid, thicken it, add stuff and eventually 3D print it.
